Angelo was the only son among the Ruiz siblings and was the most favorited. Everyone always said that the parties were never complete until Angelo arrived. He was funny, charming, polite, and an all around honorable young man. When his sister gave birth to a chubby baby boy, Angelo never left his side. He did all the work caring for Ramiro, as if he were his own baby. Growing up, he would do the most to keep Ramiro happy. After Angelo came back from work, he would take Ramiro into town and do little things together like eat sandwiches by the fountain or play in the fields. After the family immigrated to the U.S, life was more difficult, but Angelo remained determined to keep Ramiro chubby and happy.
The cause of Ramiros astrophobia has to do with an incident that happened while Ramiro was eight years old, before Galo entered the U.S. Angelo one night picked Ramiro up from a soccer game only for them to be attacked by a group of celestials. These celestials were feral, they did not know Angelo nor did Angelo know the celestials. Angelo was killed that night and Ramiro’s face was left with a big cut across his nose, half of his fingers on his left hand were blown off (thankfully his middle and index finger were reattached) and his stomach was left with a scar in the shape of a shooting star. Before his uncle was killed, he shot one of the celestials in the head then accidentally shot the celestial’s star. This caused an explosion, burning Angelo alive. The explosion was so quick that no screams were heard. He was there holding a gun, and the next moment his lifeless charred body was lying on the streets. When asked about the events all Ramiro could say about this was that he and his uncle were attacked by a group of aliens and they retreated back into space, killing his uncle. There was barely any evidence at the scene, just a crying boy who couldn't speak English next to a charred body. The police eventually came out with the narrative that Angelo was affiliated with gangs, was jumped then became a victim of arson. Ramiro was sent to a mental institution for almost a year. When Ramiro rejoined society, he was met with American children bullying him and mocking the death of his uncle, the supposed dangerous gang member. This trauma still affects Ramiro, making him skittish and getting severe panic attacks when met with sudden flash bangs. Galo is unaware of all of this.
